1. Indication:

  • Asthma, moderate to severe, maintenance
  • Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, maintenance.

2. Instruction to use (How is this drug best taken):

  • Insert cartridge: Put the clear base back into place until it clicks
  • Turn the clear base in the direction of the arrows on the label until it clicks (half a turn)
  • Point the inhaler toward the ground. Press the dose-release button & close the cap.
  • Prior to first use, insert cartridge into the inhaler and prime the unit by actuating the inhaler toward the ground until an aerosol cloud is visible; repeat three more times and then the unit is primed and ready for use.
  • Breathe out slowly and fully & close your lips around the mouthpiece without covering the air vents.
  • Point the inhaler to the back of your throat. While taking a slow, deep breath through your mouth, Press the dose-release button and continue to breathe in.
  • Hold your breath for 10 seconds or for as long as comfortable.
  • Repeat Turn, Open, Press (TOP) for a total of 2 puffs.

3. Warnings

  • Bronchospasm: discontinue use
  • CNS effects: May cause dizziness and blurred vision
  • Hypersensitivity reactions: Immediate hypersensitivity reactions (angioedema, rash, bronchospasm, anaphylaxis, itching) have been reported. Discontinue immediately if signs/symptoms occur.

4. Side effects

May include cough, dry mouth, constipation, urinary retention, pharyngitis, sinusitis, and respiratory tract infections

5. Precautions

  • This drug is not indicated for acute bronchospasm (rescue therapy).
  • Report symptoms of acute narrow-angle glaucoma (eye pain or discomfort, blurred vision, visual halos).
  • If not used for more than 3 days, actuate the inhaler once to prepare the inhaler for use.
  • If not used for more than 21 days, actuate the inhaler until an aerosol cloud is visible and then repeat the process three more times to prepare the inhaler for use.
