1. Indication:
- Treats high blood pressure, angina, and atrial fibrillation.
- Prevents migraine headaches.
2. Instruction to use (How is this drug best taken):
- Take your medicine as directed.
- Extended-release capsule: Swallow the capsule whole. Do not crush, break, or chew it. Take at bedtime.
- This medicine may be taken with or without food, but always take it the same way each time.
- Missed dose: Take a dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, wait until then and take a regular dose. Do not take extra medicine to make up for a missed dose.
- Store the medicine in a closed container at room temperature, away from heat, moisture, and direct light.
3. Drug-Drug Interaction:
Tell your doctor if you are using any of the following medicines:
- Bupropion, chlorpromazine, cimetidine, ciprofloxacin, digoxin, dobutamine, enoxamine, epinephrine, fluconazole, fluoxetine, fluvoxamine, montelukast, paroxetine, phenobarbital, phenytoin, rifampin, theophylline, thioridazine, or ticlopidine.
- Blood thinner (including warfarin).
- Medicine to lower cholesterol (including cholestyramine, lovastatin, pravastatin).
- Medicine to treat depression (including MAO inhibitor, TCAs).
- Medicine to treat heart rhythm problems (including propafenone, quinidine).
- Medicine to treat migraine or headaches (including rizatriptan, zolmitriptan).
- NSAID pain or arthritis medicine (including aspirin, diclofenac, ibuprofen, naproxen, celecoxib).
- Other blood pressure medicine (including clonidine, diltiazem, nicardipine, nifedipine, nisoldipine, prazosin, verapamil).
- Steroid medicine.
4. Side effects
May include bradyarrhythmias, cold extremities, anorexia, nausea, vomiting, insomnia, paresthesias, dyspnea, and wheezing
5. Precaution
This medicine may cause the following problems:
- Chest pain
- Dark urine or pale stools, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, stomach pain, yellow skin or eyes
- Lightheadedness or fainting
- Slow, fast, or irregular heartbeat
- Swelling in your hands, ankles, or feet, trouble breathing, tiredness
