DEPARTMENT OF OPHTHALMOLOGY
At the present, department of ophthalmology belongs to division of surgery and there are two consultant physicians who specialized in cornea, external eye disease, cataract and glaucoma.
The most important one of our major goals is to provide comprehensive supporting facilities for three (oncology, cardiovascular and neuroscience) centers of excellence – the main scopes of clinical services at SKSH. Most of the patients in these centers have underlying systemic diseases such as diabetes mellitus and hypertension which may result in vision-threatening complications and any clue or evidence of ocular involvement is critical for the doctors to accurately diagnose and effectively manage these patients. We also try to set up the most modernized, automated and patient-friendly ophthalmic unit which offers a near full range of ophthalmic services as a referral center of tertiary ophthalmic care in Northern Emirates and the UAE.
To meet our goals, we have prepared well-organized outpatient department in new area through remodeling and equipped state state-of-the-art diagnostic devices such as automated refracto-kerato-tono-pachymeter, optical biometry, specular microscopy, digital fundus camera, visual field analyzer, ultrasonography/ultrabiomicroscopy and optical coherence tomography. The operating theater is also supposed to be equipped with the most sophisticated and up-to-date surgical machines and microscope. All the patients, who visit our ophthalmologic department, can expect to get the best and the most comprehensive ophthalmic services which have never seen before.
