1. Indication:

• It is used to treat or prevent blood clots.
• It is used to lower the number of heart attacks in patients who have unstable angina or mild heart attacks.

2. Instruction to use (How is this drug best taken)

• It is given as a shot into the fatty part of the skin on the right or left side of the belly.
• This drug must not be given into a muscle.
• Do not use if the solution is cloudy, leaking, or has particles.
• Move the site where you give the shot with each shot.

3. Drug-Drug Interaction:

Tell your doctor if you are using any of the following:

  • Aspirin
  • Dipyridamole
  • Sulfinpyrazone
  • Blood thinners
  • NSAIDs (including ketorolac, tromethamine).

4. Side effects

  • Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing
  • Fever
  • Rapid weight gain, swelling in your hands, ankles, or feet
  • Red or dark brown urine, bloody, black, tarry stools
  • Unusual bleeding, bruising, or weakness
  • Vomiting blood or material that looks like coffee grounds

5. Precaution

  • Do not rub the site where you give the shot.
  • Do not give into skin that is bruised or scarred. Do not give into the belly button.
  • Do not give into skin within 2 inches (5 cm) of the belly button.
  • Do not inject through clothes.
